Our History
Alice and Ed founded Ed’s Tree Service in 1987 to provide tree care services to homeowners, commercial properties, and government facilities throughout the DC metro area. What began as a small operation has evolved over nearly four decades, earning a strong reputation throughout Maryland built on quality workmanship and lasting customer relationships.
When Ed retired, their son Kevin joined Alice in leading the company. They work together to oversee day-to-day operations and work directly with customers and crews. We’ve had the privilege of serving over 15,000 customers to date, and each relationship has helped shape the company we’ve become.
How Being Family-Owned Shapes Our Work
Being a family-owned business shapes everything about how we operate. We answer the phones, handle scheduling, know our crews personally, and stay connected to every job that goes out. When you call Ed’s Tree Service, you’re talking to people who have a personal stake in your satisfaction and our reputation.
That hands-on involvement means we can respond quickly when situations demand it, make decisions without bureaucratic delays, and stand behind our work personally. Our name is on the trucks. Our reputation is built on every interaction and every job we complete. That accountability drives how we approach the work and the relationships we build with customers.
What Our Customers Say
When Ed’s crew does the job, it always goes well. They arrived on time and were very competent and professional in the way that they did the work. They are easy to talk to, and they take care to do everything correctly and to clean up after the job is done. — H.Marsh
“Ed’s Tree Service did an excellent job cutting multiple trees, grinding stumps in the front yard, and trimming dead branches from others. They were professional, efficient, and offered a very reasonable price. I’m impressed with the quality of their work and will definitely be using them again for my backyard. Highly recommend!” — SG
“I’ve never had better service. Specifically, Grant in our area was phenomenal. We had an issue with a storm knocking over a tree, and he came out first thing on New Year’s Day to estimate a plan for us. Once he realized the tree was a hazard, he personally came out to begin clearing ASAP until the crew formalized a plan for the next day. He and his team were efficient, kind, knowledgeable, and very supportive.” — Amy M.
Licensed, Insured, and Professional
Professionalism starts with recognized qualifications and credentials. Co-owner Alice McManus holds our Maryland tree service license #557 issued by the Department of Natural Resources. We carry comprehensive liability and workman’s compensation insurance covering all crew members, and we can provide certificates of insurance upon request.
Maryland requires all tree service companies to maintain these credentials for good reason. Licensing demonstrates that we meet Maryland’s professional standards for tree care, and insurance protects you if something unexpected happens during tree work on your property.
We’re also proud members of professional tree care organizations that help us stay current on industry best practices and safety standards.
