Q: What is the difference between tree trimming and pruning?
Trimming and pruning are the same thing. Pruning just means you’re cutting branches in a tree basically. So anytime you’re in a tree removing a branch or removing dead branches that is considered pruning.
Q: Why is regular tree trimming or pruning important for tree health?
Regular tree trimming is very important to tree health and the safety of your property – dead branches and trees can fall at any time. They can fall on a structure. They damaging your property and in rare cases, sometimes dead branches can fall on children playing in the area. Obviously the dead branches are the most important, but you also have to keep the branches off your side of your house and roof so we trim away from your house and roof. We need to keep it elevated so the branches don’t scrape your car coming up the driveway. We also elevate branches so that you can walk under the tree, so you can mow your lawn easier, or walk around your property easier.
Q: Can tree trimming prevent branches from falling and causing damage?
Getting the dead branches out is imperative. If you don’t remove your dead branches, they will fall and damage your property or someone under the canopy of the tree. We also recommend to thin a tree out. Most trees generate hundreds of little sucker branches that make the tree really thick and dense. We always recommend to remove those little branches, which is called thinning the crown. This allows air to flow through the tree easier versus a really thick canopy. If you get a high wind and the wind can’t flow through your tree, it can impact your tree and cause the tree to break split or uproot.
Q: How often should homeowner schedule tree trimming or pruning?
We always recommend to trim trees about every three to five years. Dead branches naturally occur. Sucker branches are always regrowing, making the crown thick, so we always recommend to inspect the trees to have them thinned out and dead wooded.
Q: What tools or techniques do you use for safe and effective pruning?
Pruning requires the climbers in the tree climbing throughout the crown of the tree and lowering down dead branches, clearing all the little sucker branches with the hand saw. It’s mainly one, two, or three men that are in the crown of the tree, cleaning it out with their tools.
Q: How does pruning help with tree growth and shape?
You definitely need to keep trees away from elevated structures. Sometimes as trees get larger, the lower branches droop down. So you want to remove those to give it a better shape to the canopy.
Q: Are there specific times of year when tree trimming is more effective?
You definitely want to prepare your trees before the summertime comes when we get most of the high wind storms. We prune trees year round, so it’s never a bad time to prune a tree.
Our Tree Trimming and Pruning Services
We offer a full range of tree pruning services in MD to meet your tree care needs. Our experts use professional techniques to ensure that your trees are properly trimmed and pruned for optimal health.
- Crown Cleaning: We remove dead, dying, diseased, or weakly attached branches from the crown of the tree, which helps improve overall tree health and safety.
- Crown Thinning: Selective branch removal is used to improve light penetration and airflow throughout the tree’s canopy. Thinning helps reduce wind resistance and prevents storm damage by allowing the tree to sway more easily during high winds.
- Crown Raising or Elevating: Removing lower branches provides clearance for roofs, gutters, vehicles, and walkways. Elevating the tree also increases light that filters through to lawns and walkways, enhancing your landscape’s overall appearance.
- Crown Clearing: We clear branches that interfere with wires, gutters, roofs, chimneys, windows, decks, and play areas. This service is essential for maintaining tree health and ensuring the safety of your property and family.
- Crown Reduction: In cases of storm damage, we reduce the size of the tree and reshape the crown to restore its structure and prevent future issues. This ensures the tree remains healthy and well-maintained.
- Wound Assessment: We don’t apply dressings to tree wounds, as current research shows that dressings seal in moisture and slow down the healing process. We allow trees to heal naturally, as this method promotes healthier recovery.
